Earthly affairs

Five years a free kept part of daily enjoyed food and drink, archived by date, an everyday visual chronicle in small glass bottles and separate from it on paper, soberly noted in a school notebook, the contents. In addition, a photographic report of the biological developments of this, close to the skin, of matter in constant transformation. Slowly it all goes, with regular structures and glistenings, a magical untold wealth of tints and tones in motion and at rest at the same time

Messages from the underworld

The results of the project ZOOkeeper. I worked from October to December 2021 in Studio ZOOkeeper, the art space right next to CBK Rensenpark. During her period as ZOOkeeper, there was a lot going on in the Rensenpark around the light festival. I therefore decided to shift the focus to the subterranean, secretive life that is not visible. The installation Messages from the Underworld was born.

Mister Postman

Postman Aardenburg
A container unit converted into a post office. With these transformation installations, Manja Kindt wants to bridge the gap between art and life. Unlike commodity artists such as Haim Steinbach, Ashley Bickerton and Guillaume Bijl, with her wall contemplation units she examines the (false) reality of everyday reality , the position of the artefact as a marketable object and especially the ecological involvement of the landscape. Within her adage: Experience of the lived landscape is also the experience of the lived time, nature literally forms the constant breeding ground for her particularly idiosyncratic work. In this context, she launched the Fields of Time and Space concept at the beginning of May and actually shaped Aardenburg as a transfer centre. Within a predetermined time frame and defined area, she created observation posts in the form of small tents as a museum site. Interactively, visitors were asked to approach the landscape in a poetic way, focusing on seeing, hearing, smelling and feeling, in order to evoke the uniqueness of the Zeeland landscape. The results of this were recorded in photos, video, texts, sketches, sound recordings, animations, maps, objects, curiosities... were registered, ordered, archived, processed and transformed into art, provided with the necessary stamps, seals and vignettes of authenticity. Just like in a real post office. With these forms of presentation borrowed from commerce, she raises the question of alienation and superficiality inherent in modern consumer society.

For the Mister Postman project, I asked park visitors to turn their gaze to the underworld. underworld. Are there still cellars? Do the plants communicate with each other and what kind of creatures crawling around? She asked visitors to draw an impression or describe their thoughts about this. Each visitor was given a bag with information, a map to draw on and paper to write down their impressions. to write down their impressions. In the Rensenpark there were 3 mailboxes where the visitors could post their findings.
